A beautifully romantic partner dance from the Dominican Republic, Bachata has a special place at Smooth Latin Groove. It is very passionate, fun and easy to learn, and its music can be often heard at Salsa events. Although Bachata developed from a variety of different rhythms, including Merengue, the music which is specifically called Bachata is a relative of Bolero – in Latin culture traditionally romantic music, dealing with themes like deception and lost love. You will be hooked as soon as you start learning this smooth and sensual dance!

SLG focuses on the style of Bachata danced in Madrid, with its three forms: closed frame, turn patterns and footwork.

Jose Luis Camean has danced and taught Bachata in Spain over the last ten years.

Bachata is sometimes referred to as the "blues music of the Dominican Republic", borrowing from the Cuban bolero.


Music
Bachata music developed from popular guitar music of the Dominican Republic, over about forty years in the bars and brothels of Santo Domingo. Now it is tremendously successful among Latinos in the United States. Original Bachata music faded away over the years in the shadow of its newly developed descendant, which Latin dancers enjoy today!
