Gafieira Samba
Gafieira Samba is one of Brazil’s most beautiful dances, blending European and African influences with a taste of a uniquely Brazilian malandragem. Cheeky, stylish and elegant, it encourages both playfulness and grace. Gafieira Samba is loved for its energetic movements, its spirited connection between dance partners, and its entwining, Tango-like leg movements. Many consider it the ‘Brazilian Tango’, but Gafieira Samba’s more relaxed posture pre-empts broodiness and makes it a softer, happier dance. We think you will also fall in love with (and maybe to) Gafieira Samba. In fact, we’re certain of it.

I would like to enrol now!
The word samba comes from ‘kusamba’ which means ‘to pray’ or to invoke favour of the gods through rhythm, song and dance. Gafieira Samba takes its name from Rio de Janeiro’s popular, urban nightclubs called gafieiras.
Music
Gafieira Samba was born in pre-war Rio de Janeiro, taking on the rowdiness of the lower-class maxixe balls and refining it with Tango and Bolero elements. It fuses a number of different styles of Samba with Latin Jazz and Big Band sounds. With its link to the annual Carnival in Rio, Samba is widely viewed as Brazil’s national music and has come to symbolize racial and social harmony.
