Shoes
It is sometimes hard to find a dance shoe that not only looks good but offers good level of comfort and support. We think we have found just that at around $50.00 a pair.
These shoes come in variety of colours and styles for both men and women. Whether you are looking for a comfortable practice pair, something to match your Latin outfit, or a fancy pair for a dance show, we are more than happy to recommend that you try these shoes.

Leader Bonus
Bewdy Bonza Blokes Bonus ** All Smooth Latin Groove leaders are eligible to receive an extra class each week for free*. This is a chance for the guys to brush up on their leading skills, to go over the steps they have learnt in previous terms, and to make a great impression on the ladies on the dance floor. * The free class is available in a level below your current class. Please check with Ian to secure your place. ** This is a pro-active benefit to assist in balancing class ratios. Places are also available for any girls who would like to learn the leader's role.
Short Course in Cha Cha Cha
SLG is holding another popular short course, this time in Cha Cha Cha Partner Work. Learn cool combinations, smooth styling and brush up on your leading and following techniques.
Cha Cha Cha music is often played at Salsa venues. The music is a little slower than Salsa, to allow you to catch your breath between the fast paced Salsa tracks. At SLG we teach Puerto Rican style of Cha Cha Cha, breaking forward on 2 connecting with the Tumbao percussion rhythm. How much does it cost? Our 4-week Progressive courses are $85.00 (inc. GST) ($80.00 when booked online)
For SLG students your Cha Cha Cha course is only $60.00 (please book at reception)

Dance Etiquette of the 1800's

During the early Victorian era, dancing was considered a social mixer. A lady would not dance with her husband or very often with her fiancé, and most dances were group dances. Here are a few general rules of ballroom etiquette:
- Young ladies should avoid sauntering about the hall or leaving the ballroom alone. They should be accompanied by a guardian or a trustworthy gentleman of their acquaintance.
- At a private party, a gentleman may offer to dance with a lady without an introduction, but at public balls he must first secure an introduction from a mutual acquaintance or the master of ceremonies. If attending a ball, gentlemen were expected to dance and to make sure there were no "wall flowers."
- Gentlemen should request the "honor," not the "pleasure" of a dance.
- If a lady declines to dance with a gentleman, she is expected to give him a reason. She then should not accept another for the same dance unless it was previously promised.
- During the course of a dance, one should endeavor to look pleasant, politely greeting other couples in the set as one moves through the figures of the dance. However, one should not dance or caper in a manner that would draw attention to oneself.
- When a dance is complete, the gentleman should offer refreshment or a stroll to his partner. If she declines, he should conduct her to her seat and thank her again for the dance, whereupon she should smile and nod politely.
