Dancing is one of the most enjoyable things you can do. We have all experienced that moment where our favourite tune comes on the radio and we suddenly break out in a craziest of dances, relishing in the experience. It is important to focus on keeping that feeling from the moment you step into a dance class at Smooth Latin Groove. Many people who go to dance classes on a regular basis obviously do enjoy it. But becoming too intense or too competitive can work against you and slow your progress down. Focus on the little things along the way. The things that most people are worried about in a dance class are making mistakes, looking out of place and having other people watching them. Of course when this takes over your mind it is hard to focus on anything else and to fully enjoy yourself. While you are learning new moves and concepts you will not necessarily execute everything perfectly in class. It is essential to relax and have fun as it will make your learning process much more effective. A positive attitude to the learning process and patience are vital to getting the most out of your classes whether you are coming to regular SLG classes or casual workshops, and regardless of your current level of skills. A lot of people use dance as a fitness alternative. While certain people find it easy to spend a few weeks getting fit, it requires a high degree of discipline. If there is, however, an element of enjoyment, continuing a fitness regime beyond the initial spark that inspired you to get fit in the first place is much easier. Try Active Dance Movement class for an energetic workout while still focusing on the dance styles taught in the SLG courses. Achievement is very closely linked to how much pleasure you take from the activity. It is possible to achieve goals by pure commitment alone, but then you will be missing out on the fun and the journey. With enjoyment, achievement and improvement will come naturally and your progression in your Salsa and Zouk classes at Smooth Latin Groove will be relaxed and fun. The goal of every class should be to make improvement. So even if you make many mistakes, that is an improvement in a sense, because it increases your awareness of the correct techniques. When your goals are to get better with every lesson and to enjoy the process, you WILL have fun and improve at your own most efficient pace in your Dance Journey at SLG! This night is a special occasion, with workshops followed by a Graduation Night. Join your friends and classmates to celebrate the end of another dance term. Bring yourself, your friends and your sense of humour. Nibbles and finger food provided. (Bring a Bottle of bubbles if you like!) The workshop for this session is MERENGUE Cool Moves Rueda  Workshops 7:30pm - 8:30pmSocial Dancing from 8:30pm Workshops are in two levels: Beginners (Studio 1) & Intermediate+ (Studio 2) Everyone is welcome! Workshop and social dancing is only $10 for SLG students and $15 for guests. Entry after 8:30pm is only $5 for SLG students and $10 for guests. Get along, get dancing, learn something new, have fun, make friends and, if you need assistance, your teachers are there to help! Each Tune-Up Dance Session includes a one hour Workshop in two levels, followed by two hours of social practice time. Each fortnight a new dance style is focused on during the workshop. While workshops will vary from session to session each includes a social practice time in Salsa, Zouk and Gafieira Samba with a dash of Cha Cha Cha & Bachata. With hectic schedules and commitments, sometimes it is hard to make it to every scheduled class. At SLG we want to make sure you get the full value of your classes. Don’t forget that catch up classes are an option if you miss your regular class during the term. Catch up classes may be possible in either a class at the same level or a class in an appropriate level below. (E.g. Salsa Focus 3 can be caught up in Salsa Focus 2, and Core Two class can be caught up in Core One.) Catch up classes are subject to the availability of space/ratio. Smooth Latin Groove has again been selected to perform at the 5th Annual Sydney Salsa Congress on 29th January - 1st February 2009. The Sydney Salsa Congress is an internationally recognized event that brings together more than 4000 dancers for four days of dance celebration. Smooth Latin Groove will be running a Zouk Performance course as preparation for the performance at the Sydney Salsa Congress 2009. Salsa This album is superb. It is a demonstration of what Salsa Dura is all about. Nothing watered down, just pure salsa the way it should be played. !Wepa Chino ! This is a real great record.It would be a shame if it was not, with great names like this you have 100% Salsa Dura, a must have for every dj. Great CD - will wear this one out! Arrangements and performances are outstanding - Chino's musicianship has no comparisons, he's on another planet! WOW, Explosive Salsa!!!!! Chino truly outdid himself!!! Great singers, sweet arrangements, The best Guest artists!! and Chino's percussion chops - Can't get any better than this!!! If you don't have this CD, I suggest that you do buy it. No Concrete Please!
When dancing for extended periods of time it is important to ensure that the floor surface is safe for the joints and bones. Dancing on concrete, even one topped with a vinyl surface, causes fatigue and, when used repeatedly, contributes to the chance of injury. This can lead to a wide range of overuse injuries, particularly to the tendons and bones. Shin splints and stress fractures in the feet are common dance-related overuse injuries. Knees and hips are also put at risk during spins and turns on non-slip surfaces. A concrete floor is NEVER an acceptable training surface. The injuries and damage that can be caused by dancing on concrete for extended periods of time are many and can potentially be career threatening. So if you are practicing, make sure you are using a dance-friendly floor, ideally a timber or wooden surface. Dance safely and you will be able to enjoy it injury-free for many years!
