Corby Keele
Corby started dancing in Brisbane in 2000 when he was recovering from a dislocated knee and gaining weight fast. He heard a radio segment advertising Latin dance classes at a place called "The Stuffed Duck" in the Brisbane city, went there for the intro class, and was hooked as soon as he saw how hot the little Latina teacher was. Corby soon discovered he was completely hopeless and frustrated the teacher no end.
“Way back then, the only thing on offer was the South American style, and Salsa in Brisbane was definitely an underground scene. The level was not very good on the whole and there were maybe six dancers worth watching. Oh how things have changed for the better!”
Corby’s earliest dance memory is winning an award at the high school social dance for the best performance of the 'Time Warp'. His favourite dance memory would have to be social dancing at the nightclub in the Hilton hotel with all the best dancers in Brisbane at the time and not stopping for three hours straight: with two partners at once, swapping with other leaders, and even dancing as a follower. Corby’s strangest dance gig involved being asked to fly out to a little town called Winton in central Queensland to teach and perform at a party, where he and Allison ended up performing in the Boardroom of the original head office of Qantas Airways.
Corby’s favourite music is Salsa, Bachata, 80's music, South African township music and Bob Marley. (“Not in that order.”) Aside from dancing, Corby has a passion for high performance cars (hot rods, street rods, and high performance imports), and he plans to build his own hot rod one day soon. He also has a passion for reading 1000 page Sci-fi novels in a week or two.
